The White House is citing "executive privilege" in its refusal to provide Congress with documents related to the death of former NFL player Pat Tillman.  Pentagon officials originally released a story claiming Tillman was killed heroically in a shoot-out with the enemy in Afghanistan.  In fact, Tillman died in a so-called "friendly fire" incident, accidentally shot by fellow soldiers.  Military officials knew the truth shortly after the incident but Pentagon sources continued to release false and misleading information to the press and Tillman family.  Congress is investigating the White House role in the Tillman cover-up.

As former Senator Fred Thompson prepares to enter the GOP presidential contest, the Boston Globe is re-examining the politician -turned -actor -turned-politician’s role in the Watergate investigation.  During the Watergate hearings, Thompson, then an attorney working for the committee investigating the break-in at Democratic headquarters, asked questions that revealed the existence of the White House tape-recording system.  But according to Thompson’s own book about the investigation, he gave the Nixon White House a “heads-up,” warning them that the Watergate committee already knew about the recording system. "Thompson was a mole for the White House," according to one of the Watergate investigators.  "Fred was working hammer and tong to defeat the investigation of finding out what happened to authorize Watergate and find out what the role of the president was."
