The University of Iowa Hawkeye Poll released today shows New York Senator Hillary Clinton has the support of 28.9 percent of Iowa Democrats while Illinois Senator Barack Obama garners support from 26.6 percent, a difference that is within the poll’s margin or error.  The same poll shows former Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards fading to 20 percent, a six point drop from August.  Among Republicans, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney leads with 36.2 percent, with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani a distant second at 13.1 percent, followed closely by a surging Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas.

He supported Mario Cuomo, a liberal Democrat, against a Republican who was running for governor; then opposed the governor's tax cuts when he was there. So I simply disagree with him on those issues. And he sides with Hillary Clinton on each of those issues I just mentioned."

Bobby Jindal has won the election for Louisiana Governor with 53 percent of the vote.  Jindal, a GOP congressman, will succeed Kathleen Blanco, who was widely criticized for her handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  At 36 years old, Jindal becomes the youngest governor in the country and the first governor of Indian descent.

Thousands of members of the Minnesota National Guard have been denied education benefits provided by the GI Bill.  The reason?  They only spent 729 days on Iraq, and the law requires that they be there for 730 days in order to receive the benefits.  Some believe the Pentagon deliberately wrote their orders for 729 days instead of 730 to keep the soldiers from receiving the GI Bill benefits.

The Republican presidential candidates have released their campaign contribution information for the third quarter of 2007, with top GOP fundraiser Rudy Giuliani coming in with $11 million in contributions, approximately half the amounts raised by Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in the same period.  Giuliani’s rivals raised less, with Mitt Romney bringing in $10 million, Fred Thompson receiving $9.3 million and John McCain coming in with $6 million.  The biggest surprise in the GOP money primary was Texas Rep.
